Home Depot also sells a 10lb. bag of aquatic plant soil that is safe for fish and doesn't alter PH for about $9-$10. I know that its used for Koi ponds. I'm not sure how well it works with large cichlids. The package says that it doesn't cloud the water when disturbed by fish either. My wife wants a planted tank so I think I will try this soil.

I might try abit of that under the substrate for abit more. I'll need to lay egg crates to be sure the fish doesn't dig to/past it if he does.

I have been using white sailfin mollies as dithers with my GT and JD for a few months now with no issues at all I really like the look against the black background. The fry don't last very long but that was the whole idea so it worked out for me.
Plants IDK hit or miss there see what happens tugging on the fake plants may = munching on the live ones.
The MTS is a great idea with the loaches. Hope they don't do such a good job they can't establish. I had a good population in with my Discus untill I added Dwarf Loaches and in three months they were all gone.

I think it's a good plan. Better than my foray into Tiger Barbs....lol
I will have a back up tank for Cherry shrimp and MTS's to grow out in. Mollies, Swords, and Platties will be awsome I think. Also with lots of hiding spots might have a descent chance of survival.

Sweet, toss some videos/pictures up. Would love to see it. I wish I could have kept them, but it was just a loss of money and the wife was getting aggrivated.
