Have you tested your water?
Yes
If I did not test my water...
...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?
Yes
If I do not change my water...
...I recognize that I will likely be recommended to do a water change, and water changes are critical for preventing future freshwater health problems.
Here’s a big mystery for everyone who wants to help me figure it out
My breeding colony of Electric yellow cichlids all dead the same way and in no more then 4 days all 24 of them
They all ended up spinning width wise 24 hours after I 1st notice a few doing it Then a day and half later most of them gave up trying to swim The ones that didn’t give up survived a day or 2 more then after that The ones that gave up all seem to die in the same hour so this problem was not only very affective at it’s motive but unbelievable predictable
Now my tank has had no changes in last 5 months when they started breeding
Everything was the same as 5 months ago I checked 3 or more times I did a 30-40% water change once a week and cleaned out the filter Every 2 weeks it’s a 350 litre tank with a filter that has a motor that does 1200 L/h I use mechanical filtration and biological filtration I had activated carbon in but took it out after they were breeding
Non seemed any where near sick just 1 day before I saw a few with swimming problem
Please note my timing on things Beyond day 1 is at some points guessing as I got a really bad back and was unable to really stay down at my tanks could barely walk down the stairs so yeah gram of salt

I have search for something only thing I found that fits is quite unseen in Australia

I’am from Brisbane the people at one of the best aquariums in Brisbane that also does specialise in cichlid said That my tank had crash but not only did the water basically match with 5 months old condition I had a breeding group of 1male 2female Brislenose that are still breeding in the tank now that has only had a 50% water change and the tool I have been using to clean up the bodies has been used in that tank until I m sure if something that can spread on surfaces is gone if there is so I appreciate some help I really wanna know what happened All the fish are dead non survived

Any mechanical failures that you know of? A drop in O2 levels could definitely kill a whole tank.

Any chance a chemical could have gotten in?

Fish symptoms and total deaths within such a short period indicate water quality, most likely a poison.

I suggest you stop advice shopping on discussion forums and listen to your LFS if they are one of the best stores in Brisbane.

I’m not a bad fish keeper ever I have over 11 years In the hobby. I look at the all the bodies individually not all of them died with same things wrong with them some had bleeding insides some blown organs and some even indicated blindness. I m not a expert in poison but unless Someone intentionally throw different chemicals in I don’t think one chemical that someone found and drop in will cause different health inflections before death
Especially the numbers Some fish do react differently to same chemical but There’s so many variations in this that I don’t believe it can be one chemical
