A fair question re: minimum tank size?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's not just about the width. A 16" fish in a 4' tank. He would be 1/3 the length of the tank.

exactly, its like keeping a hamster in a packed lunch box... a big male jag needs a 180g imo.

yup chock, that is pretty much it. fin level or 90%. this applies to large fish, obviously not something you want to do with your tetras and such. can still do a 90% percent, but stop there.

odd is speaking of 5ft tanks.

for me, I like a taller tank, fish seem to love going up and down the glass. may need to get a bench as I do to vacuum and move things but worth it to me. I just love that large water window and the fish use every inch of it.

I am speaking of 6ft tank, not a short tall angel tank per say.

How often do you guys do these 90% changes?
I've been doing 80% weekly of late to try get my gt growing a bit quicker, the more the better. I remember when I used to have discus reading about breeders and professional keepers doing 80-90% per day and how they had never even had to cycle a tank before and had never seen such good growth. Can never do too many, just depends on how big you want your water bill to be lol.

75% weekly keeps nitrates x 1.3 of your weekly produced nitrates by day 7 after nitrate creep takes effect, 50% wc is 2x you weekly produced nittrates on water change day. i do 75-80% a week.
