Well, something was stinking up the house and coming from the area of the fish tank. I went to inspect inside the stand. There was my 16" Congicus totally dried up and dead:(. He musta been there for a couple of days. This was my favorite bichir.

I have the entire top covered. He must have jumped so hard that he hit his way throw the plastic that comes with the lid to fill in the back.

Sorry for your loss! I run my water level about 6" down from the top of all my tanks, because of that very occurence. I watched as one of my larger polys poked their head out of the water, as if they were standing on their tails, and then with one powerful twitch of its tail, pushed up that strip that runs along the back of it's tank and flopped out on the floor! I was just lucky I happened to be home and watching at the time, or I would have had the same result as you! This was a new wild caught bichir that I had recently got from Toyin and it spent about three days slamming it's head on the top of the tank trying to get out! Again I'm sorry for your loss! You might want to think about lowering the water level and adding some weight to the tank lid!:( Johnathan

Sorry for your loss buddy thats a shame.

sorry to hear...i lost my prized silver arowana a few months back and my tiretrack eel this morning that i dint even have for 2 days

Thanks guys. I guess it is an unfortunate part of the hobby that a lot of us will eventually experience. Unfortunately, it is the larger fish that you have had for a while that have the strength to crash through a closed lid.

Sorry to hear this. You must be upset I for one would be absolutely crushed. Thank god I read this on Sunday as I have the time to reinforce my tops a bit more today and not worry as much.

Sorry again for your loss :(
