Sorry to hear this. You must be upset I for one would be absolutely crushed. Thank god I read this on Sunday as I have the time to reinforce my tops a bit more today and not worry as much.

Yes, reinforced tops are a good idea. Like I said, He didn't go through the lid that opens; he went through the back. I have to use a lot of force with my hands to lift up the back plastic where he managed to get through.

Sorry to hear about your loss, having them jumping from impossible locations in our tanks can be mind boggling at time.
I too have loss valuable fishes before. One which comes to mind is my gold arrowana ( he was about 6" already when he jump from a 1/2" slit atop the tank cover and OHF) how he manage to do that I just only found him dried up on the floor the next morning. Again
