I wouldn't it did that for a reason and I a 17 year old know that there was no hope to reattaching that finger I gotta give it to the guy he's got some balls doing that

Hello; Not always so. I witnessed a part of a finger severed in a door at a local library some months ago. I witnessed the librarian in retriving the protion of the finger from the door. She put it in abag of ice. I had thought the finger could not be attached, but was wrong. Some months later the librarian reported that the finger was attached and at that time the boy was doing OK.

I also agree with others in that a dog that attacks/bites anyone, with very limited exceptions, should be put down.

I love dogs, and I think the Dad did the right thing. You can't just let the dog swallow your son's finger...

+1. It sounds a bit wrong or cruel but its justified. This reminds me of my dad. When I first started keeping my ball python he always would tell me if the snake ever bit me he'll kill it.

As a parent and dog owner I think in this situation I would've done the same thing.

People are more important than animals.

See, I disagree with this in about 98% of the cases. People are cruel, horrible creatures for the most part, lacking the loyalty and love that dogs show as a matter of routine.

There is too little information to make the call. If it were my own kids, I'd assume I taught them well enough to not abuse the dog or try to hand feed and thus know something out of the ordinary had happened. If it's a child that I know abuses animals, well then tough crap, you got what you deserved. If my own kid was mistreating a dog, then I've failed as a parent. That's not to say I wouldn't have done the same thing, I couldn't answer that until I found myself in the situation, but I'd have to be wondering what the hell they did to the poor dog even if I did retrieve the finger.

Most dog attacks on people are the fault of the humans involved (either as the antagonist or the trainer), not the dogs. When I get a dog again, it is for protection of myself and my family. Any one dumb enough to hop the fun should get attacked, that's why we domesticated dogs in the first place. No reason to punish them for doing the very thing we taught them to do to protect dumbasses.

edit: and no, I'm not stating this just to troll. I got a very nasty bite on the face when I was just a youngin from the family dog, and yes it was my fault. My da didn't call for the dog's head, and rightly so. He saw it as a lesson and one that obviously took.

+1 I completely agree with you, I don't think any life is more important than another, not even human life. I think that the only reason we should kill is for survival or food.

My answer before was based on it happening in my family with my daughter who i know wouldn't hurt any animal and I agree that I didn't think about what the kid could have done to the dog.

I still say its always justifiable to protect your family but it depends on the circumstances in cases like this.

I disagree with the fact that humans are put above animals. Every living thing on this plant has a purpose. From the smallest organisms to the biggest. Just cause humans are at the top of the food chain doesn't make any better or different then the animals.

I'm not switching my response from before I do still believe the dad did the Right thing but just disagree that we humans are placed above all other life forms.

yes, I would. Even if the dog was my very loved buddy, and even if the finger was from a stranger. I'd have to try to for the best odds of reattaching it...can't let it accumulate more damage from sitting inside s dogs' gut and wait for a vet to operate, just to be respectful of a dogs' life. That would be dumb.
