A few basic questions

Lil-Stinker: Damn, I never even considered the idea that I might run my well dry when I fill my tank or during a large water change. That would be a disater. How much capacity would my well need to ensure that a 315g tank would NOT cause a problem? And how do I find out my well capacity?

Thanks for alerting me to this issue. Gary

Was the well in or did you put it in?

do you own or rent ?
if rent ask the LL the capacity
if own, then you may ask the prev owner, most should give that info on the sale

whatever the quoted capacity is may not matter, the actual capacity can vary by day in dry weather. remember you are counting on the water in the ground to seep into your well.

The town/county clerk may have the info if it is the first well(it is supposed to be filed in NY)

if you have a well maintainance company they should be able to help...

sorry I cant help more but there is just too many variables..

Dang just thought of this. be sure to get the water tested for minerals & ellements, I would let you drink water that I wouldnt put fish in

I would not want to take a well under 50percent for a tank on a change.. initial fill I would just fill a bit each day...

take the well cap/2 daily till full... depending on the water table the well may reach cap in an hour, a day or a week. neighbors may be able to clue you in on this in your area.

I guess you don't have a stream huh?

The wifes uncle has an awesome spring fed pond & can tap the spring directly if he so chooses.

I also have a friend in Bear-Lake that has a spring also, in good weather his well fills as fast as he can empty it, the water table is so high.
