A few of My Cats :)

That's what MN_Rebel called it too. I could not find that combo of a name - Ameiurus nebulosus marmoratus - in FishBase anywhere. Not in old names, not in synonyms. A tiny, perhaps inconsequential point. Maybe I just felt like sending a few electrons to run around a bit.

The name appears in many scholarly articles from roughly the late 90s and earlier; I can't find any real references to it newer than that. I suppose there may be a revision that rolled all the A. nebulosus subspecies into one; but I'm not familiar with it. There is a LOT of literature on Ictaluridae and tbh I don't feel like sifting through it. At the end of the day, we DO all agree that this is A. nebulosus after all. :) The use of the name A. n. marmoratus is convenient for the sake of the hobby, at least, because it allows us to specify this particularly attractive morph from the more drab variants that inhabit the majority of its range.

Now that I'm back in the South, I'm gonna go fishing in my in-law's pond with barbless hooks to see if I can pull one of these out!
