A Few Questions About The Parachromis Family?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have the Dovi and Managuense. I think they are both interesting fish. Actually I did not think I would be as crazy about the jags but they seem to have my heart the most.

i have owned freddies(la-ceiba)and they breed almost every four weeks like they were on a schedule, had a great bond and lived together for along time by themselves and never harmed one another,i think the parachromis species have the best bonds in pairs(imo)

I've heard the same about their strong pair bonds from multiple long time cichlid guys. It also seems like they tend to be very intelligent.

I have kept Jags, Dovii, RTMs& Freddies
(The order I have them listed would also be my order of favorites, Jags are my favorite)

I currently have managuensis, Loisellei, Next weekend will recieve my Red Tiger Motaguensis and hope next month Dovii's will arrive. Parach family is the best cichlid family imo. If you ask the best parach, than the best parach is Dovii. Pure hunter, pure aggression, pure American muscle, pure attitude.

parachromis is defintely my favorite genus with dovii being in my opinion the ultimate cichlid to keep with the la ceibas in second then rtm, jags then losellei being the one I have no urge to keep anytime soon and ive kept all but the loisellei but only have a dovii pair and small male la ceiba growing out currently and am very happy with both

I currently own them all. I would have to say Dovi 1st, then my RTM's (when you find a M & F with vibrant reds its hard to not like them) 2nd, Freddies La Cibal 3rd, Loisellei 4th, and the Jags 5th. I hope to purchase a pair of Honduras Managuensis, (like the pair in AquaMojos videos) These jags will probably easily move up to # 2 or 3 on my list. The blues in the fins are awesome.
