a few questions

I'm not sure you could say Flourite and Eco-Complete are "inert", they both contain iron and micro-nutrients. something that is "inert" would have literally nothing, like basic gravel or sand.

Eco-Complete also includes live bacteria that they claim breaks down aquarium waste.

both are made specifically for planted aquaria, and IME they have proven to be very effective.

here is a link to something I haven't used, but you might be interested in:

if I hadn't already put Eco Complete in my 90G a few years back, I would have bought this stuff . . .

Folowed the linkand that substrate along with the fertilizer pellets look like they are promising. Nothing but good reviews all over that forum too. And its cheaper.

I also looked into a diy co2 system, what a simple contraption and although you can't really controll how much goes in on a week to week basis with a few test a month you can be fairly accurate with you co2 levels I've already built my unit.

Next week I'm going to order my subtrate that link, along with all the positive reviews gave me confidence in the product. Its almost show time. Thanks so much for all the help and when its setup I will get pics of the tank.
