An aquascaped 300 gallon full of them would look amazing! I've never looked at them this way before.

Indeed. I think that thier "common" tag does them a disservice.
I'd argue that a giant tank, lava rock wall top to bottom, white sand, java fern plants, with a colony of the yellow labs, offset with a smaller group of Rusty Cichlids would be nirvana!
