Skipping a year would have been a disaster, since a fair amount of the actors would have had to move on to new projects. Remember, when the series began the fifth book hadn't even come out yet ... and the fourth book came out 5 years after the third. I'd say it was a fair danger, though might not have been the main reason.
I dont view skipping a year any different then multi year release dates for movies. The good actors with big roles likely wouldnt jump off and the others arent still around (how many characters have died?)

they are definitely milking it, of course they're not gonna publically admit it. and good for them, why would they not take advantage of this cash cow?
I've been counting the days for this day. it will be glorious. catching the reruns felt so good. i'm actually watching right now. the dialogue is on another level, the other show doesn't compare in the slightest.
if this show's dialogue is A level, the walking dead is C level at best. sorry krich, I know twd is your baby

But things like LoTR was filmed all at the same time, despite the 1 year apart release dates. That's the smart way to do it. The new Star Wars movies had horrible scheduling issues with filming being 3 years apart.
Eh I don't mind how they're stretching it, all that means is we are getting a more detailed view of the story

Now that was just stupid (star wars) but they couldve kept filming but spread out the release of the show
Lol, im not as caught up in this show as sumo. I really find it odd that he dove headfirst into this show but hasnt blinked an eye at Viking? Seems up his alley.

Oh I have no illusions about the HBO excecutives want to milk it to the very last drop, I just don't think that entered the thoughts of the script writers and producers that are paid by project, not season.
No predictions but I sure hope the brat king Geofrey gets run through by someone and yeah...Sumo is sleeping on Vikings.
