A good canister filter that is cheaper than a fx5?

If I where you like viper said there are fx5 in ebay for prices low as 189... On av
Average on ebay there 236.00 just save up the extra 50$-60$ for the fx5 u wont be dissapointed! Better to spend the extra 50$ on a fx5 then spending 180$ on a filter that may only be rated for 180 gallons...just a thought.

I'm sorry but your not going to find a filter that works just as good as a FX5 for under $180. Your best bet would be to save up for a FX5 or Eheim 2262. You won't regret it. You could also look for a second hand FX5 which you might be able to find in your price range. Good luck

Aquatop cf500. Works great. Quiet. Built in UV sterilizer. Big. Keeps my 180 crystal clear. Amazon has em for $120.

I wouldnt reccomend that, ive heard some crappy stories from that brand, as a primary filter NO! Decent backup sure

I recommend it because I use it. I have one on my 180 and one on my 150 for about 8 months now and no problems whatsoever. water is always clear and clean. I had an fx5 that always gave me me trouble. For the money you could get two of these for the cost of one fx5 and never have to worry about micro bubbles from the filter or other miscellaneous annoyances I had had with it.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll just save a little more for the FX5....

I kinda want to try the CF500 though so I have money to buy better sand. I can't stand this play sand I'm using! Always leeching clay and dirtying my water

call me cheap or frugal or whatever but i went with two ebay sun sun hw-304b's on my 125. they both came with the 9w UV and shipped for like 90 each when i bought them. for 180 i got two and they run dead silent with no problems ( besides priming ). with no polishing filters or carbon ( just seachem matrix ) my tank is crystal clear. the live plants also grow just fine. i'm sure they could be better but for this tetra community its going great.

i forgot to mention if money was no issue at all i would have gone eheim. i read quite a few posts about 15+ year old eheims still going strong.
