Could anyone recommend a good UV sterilizer? I currently have a 135, 60, 55, 32, 29, 20 L, and a 20, and I'm planning on rotating it on all of these tanks. Also, is a normal powerhead the only thing needed to circulate the H20 thru the canister . . .? thanks for the help fellas.

ive got the 9w version of this

i use it in my Qtank/s as well as my outdoor 60gallon planted tank to clean up the green algae/floating algae..
no need to "change" the filterpad just pull it out rinse it from time to time... its got good flow and the air hose works great for lots of surface agitation which is a must in the qtanks... has a built in powerhead which means you get the UV-flow-bubbles with only one powercord which is a lot better than 3 seperate cords...

so far no problems

I use this one and alternate between several tanks and has been working great. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2750628

On my tanks in my sump system I use one actually designed for ponds it requires a seperate pump. I like it because I am able to put a much smaller pump on it I found that some of the UV filters were pumping water through too fast to kill parasites based on the research I did at least.

petsmart has a 24w sterilizer for $60 and dr. foster has another 9w for $90. the foster and smith one has a more sleek look to it, but should i go for the obvious bigger bang for my buck? what do y'all think?

I don't know a whole lot about U.V. sterilizers, but from a friends advice......always price out the cost of a replacement bulb (if they're even available!) before buying one. On some types the bulb is either not easily available or a rip off!

If it were me I would get one of the 9w. It would be a little undersized on your 135, but cheaper operating expenses and normally lot cheaper bulb costs (which are expensive either way). Would be more than enough on most of your tanks and even your 135 it should still do quite a bit of good.

i think im gonna go for the 9w from fosters. they already have the replacement bulbs also. so scorponok, do u think the ones with a built in powerhead arent working . . .? or all uv sterilizers in general. I used to work at a petshop a couple years back and my boss had a major green water problem that cycled through all his sumps. the only way he ever got rid of the problem was a uv sterilizer but i had to hook up a powerhead to the cannister. which ones have failed for you?
