ok i was looking at jeff rapps today and he has both of these species of african jewels. But i can not decide which one to get i did some research on them, they seem to have similar behaviors and grow about the same length. So i am asking from peoples personal experience who has keep these species which one is more aggressive and which one to get , just curious about what other people up here think or would get

what size is your tank? and what would be the tankmates?
imo, the elongatus is much more aggressve. i have a fat frempongi as you can see in my av and he is fine with all my other fish.

right now i have a 40 breeder and i was going to keep them in there or with a salivini or something like that , maybe a convict

his tankmates are many SA/CA cichlids, including a salvini.
Also many catfish, an odoe etc.
But i keep him in a 200g.

A 40g could be to small! You want a pair or a single male?

i want a pair but if i get a pair i will keep then by themselves , I also heard that elongatus or frempongi not sure which one are to get to breed cuz they tend to kill each other off

Both species are known to kill each other. Its not easy to get a peaceful pair. my male killed the female even in my 200g.
try a young pair. if it doesnt work, keep the male and put another fish in the tank.

why do u say the elongatus is a lot aggressive then the frempongi ? and i am guessing the frempongi looks better because jeff rapps at www.tangledupincichlids.com is selling the frempongi for alot more then the elongatus. Also what is the female is bigger then the male

I had a male elongatus a few years ago and that mean SOB killed everything iput in his tank. you can just try to put ina pair with a bigger female but nobody can guarantee that it will work! IMO frempongi looks better than elongatus but thats just me!
