I keep flipping threw ideas as far as tankmates go and i have posted a couple questions, anyways i was wondering if a male jag (cause they look much better than a female imo) do alright with a male flower horn???? what i am wondering is if i am gonna have to worry about constant gill flaring or will they get used to each other, i mean its one thing to live in the tank without fighting, but the constant gill flaring and intimidation of one another would seem like its causing stress on both fish............

It will be hit and miss, but it's possible. The bigger the tank, the better the chance of it.

Like Levi said, the bigger the tank, the better your chances of pulling it off. Also if you have other large CA cichlids in there, it will help to break up the aggression...;)

Ive got a male Jag and Red Devil (Devil is kinda close to a flowerhorn), there is no agression between them. Maybe its because Ive got a shark that is consiterably meaner than both of em, picks on everybody so they dont feel like they need to lol Anyway back to the point, there is no agression between my jag and devil. Ive got em in a 125g tank.

got a jag in with a flowerhorn, they fight occassionally, my flower is a female though....but the flower is a little larger, they don't do much other then flare and try to punk each other....not to much actual fighting happening.

yeah it'll be okay if you get a big enough tank, but also I think you need to add more fish. Take Sym's tank for example, he has enough fish to spread the aggression. If you have just 2 one might see the other as an easy target to kill and just keep attacking it and make the tank his own, but if there are say 4 other fish they will probably think that they can't simply kill all the fish, and might just chase them every once and a while in order to stay dominant.

what size tank are you thinking?

My yellow lab (6 inches) used to try and challenge my Jag when they were about the same size for a rock they both wanted to hide in, that stopped I think when he realized how wide the jag could open his mouth lol

yeah i see what u mean, i am thinking about a 150....... i currently have a 100, and want to upgrade hahaha, anyways, the whole trying to intimidate each other thing, thats kinda what i am worried about, i don't want constant stress on one another, u guys who already have jags in with other fish, do they always try to intimidate the other fish or is it a every once in awhile thing........

in a 150 they would fight like crazy thats not big enough for two large cichlids both can and will clame territories bigger then that one on one it may never work unless in a huge tank even with two females you have a better shot but still id expect them to fight eventuall try raiseing them from very small and keep them togeather and mabye but it really is hit or miss
