I keep flipping threw ideas as far as tankmates go and i have posted a couple questions, anyways i was wondering if a male jag (cause they look much better than a female imo) do alright with a male flower horn???? what i am wondering is if i am gonna have to worry about constant gill flaring or will they get used to each other, i mean its one thing to live in the tank without fighting, but the constant gill flaring and intimidation of one another would seem like its causing stress on both fish............
Gill flaring is nothing.I get that in my tank between the Jag and RD.They never actually fight or even lip lock. They do just fine as you can see from vid in sig..As to compatability of the fish you won't know until you try.The 150 as stated should be fine but personally I wouldn't go any less.I agree with others that a couple of other fish do disperse aggression is the go.:)

in a 150 they would fight like crazy thats not big enough for two large cichlids both can and will clame territories bigger then that one on one it may never work unless in a huge tank even with two females you have a better shot but still id expect them to fight eventuall try raiseing them from very small and keep them togeather and mabye but it really is hit or miss

wrong, i've kept 2 large jaguars (agro breeding pair no less) with 1-2 other larger cichlids in 6'x18" footprint tanks. with little aggresion. most territory's take up 2-3 feet total in length of the tank for 12" fish and less for smaller ones. that leaves plenty of room for other fish.

I guess people have had different experiences. I tend to agree more with killerfish. That would be in an example with a fully grown jag and flowerhorn. Back in my younger days, I kept a 12" male jag and a 11" male midas in a 125, and they were displaying or locking up daily. In between fights, they had interesting stalemates, with each fish claiming a side of the tank. Jag on the left, midas on the right. And it stayed that way for most of the (maybe 10 month) duration. A very uneasy and unhealthy situation. It was a learning experience for me. Long story short, I eventually lost the jag. I wont take a chance on a loss like that again.

But hey, sometimes 25 more gallons, or other slight variables can make a difference.

Well OK i am set on getting a jag for sure, heres another thought, if i get a female u think that will help the chances of them getting along, i heard these two fish can breed is that possible??? I know the flower horn is already a hybrid fish, but a jag with a flower horn???

While that might yield a cool looking hybrid, male jags will LOOK better than female ones. So unless you really want to breed em Id get a male.
