wow that fails really hard. i would have never paid for that thing

When I left my fish with the shop, I told them I wanted it to look like it did in the picture that I gave them. I even tried to contact the taxidermist to make sure we were on the same page. When I went to pick it up I was so disgusted, I told them I didn't want it and it looked nothing like the fish. They agreed to try and correct some of the issues. It was a slight improvement. I had that fish for more than 12 years, If the fish wasn't so important to me, I would have left it. I just couldn't do it.

As others have commented, I also thought that they used a bass or perch preform and tried to make it fit. That is a big mistake because the Widebar was almost as deep bodied as it is long. So the fish looks nowhere near as massive as it did when it was alive.

I agree w/ oddball....looks like a bass w/ diff. colors. Sorry for your loss...Your avy will keep him alive.

Believe it or not it was the one in my Avatar. When I saw it I almost walked out of the store and left it there. I probably should give it a decent burial.
I've been down this road bro,had an awsome Oreochromis Tanganyikae for a few years and it was about fifteen inches at it's time of death.I contacted a taxidermist, probably the only one in this town and after almost years wait for the finished product the thing was an abomination.Mine also had that stretched out look to it,I wanted to display it on a wall above my tanks but it is up on a shelf somewhere because I cant stand looking at it.

ouch im sorry is it supposed to be sparkly?

don't mean to sound negative

but i have never understood why people do this kind of thing to any animal

when something dies it should be laid to rest with the same respect you would give a member of your family

you wouldn't send a old lady to a taxidermies would you

I happen to know someone who wants to have this done after they pass on,and they are serious but of course I would'nt(cant speak for anyone else though). We have our different views on how we'd like to remember our beloved fish, obviously some dont see it as being disrespectful.

I can understand why you might think this way. People who catch fish or kill animals for the sole reason of sticking it on their wall, as decor, to me is wrong. After all the time and money spent on feeders, I wanted a little something extra to remember it by. It didn't turn out so good. (Really bad actually). I should have sought references beforehand.

As far as comparing mounting a fish to stuffing Grandma (i wasn't going to say mounting again) That is like calling littering the same as murder. IMO

Regardless, I still enjoyed the response and appreciate your reply.

Note: This was in response to T1KARMANN remarks. I meant to quote him
