New Jersey is without a doubt the worst state for reptile keepers.
Very few people have bothered to read all of their laws, and most of the reptiles sales you come across in the state are illegal as a result. Technically speaking, all pythons are illegal to buy, sell, trade, & possess in NJ without a permit in addition to almost any other reptile; there's even a specific list of reptiles that are legal without in that state.
