Howdy,
Many regular fluorescent plant lights are purple. Quite often, that is fabulous for algae growth, at least from no-name bulb brands. I am running Sera Plant Color in my 75 gal, and it's working great.

I am running 18,000K Hagen Powerglo standard flourescent bulbs, that some say are pinkish.
