A little bit of dumb luck and I must be doing something right.

Update: the female apears to have moved @ 1/4 - 1/3 of the eggs to a smaller pot behind the larger pot they first spawned inand almost never leaves that area. The male cant seem to decide to protect the new location or the old and the eggs left are slowly getting eaten by the others in the tank. Hoping the female took the best eggs and I'll soon have fry in the tank. I cant see into the new spot and dont want to disturb them finding out.
What is the average timeframe from once all the eggs are laid to hatched wiglers to free swimming fry?

congrats...as already said about a week or give a day from eggs free swimmers...and my experience as the eggs hatch the female moves the wrigglers to a more secluded area to make that transition...

They seem to be great parents and are keeping all the other fish in the tank on the other half of the tank. Considering putting in a divider but I'm worried the fry would wonder through and get eaten.

A couple new questions:

When do I need to start adding food for the fry? and what is the best way to do that without severely stressing the parents?

What is the best water temp to raise the jag fry at?

How often should I be doing water changes with tiny fry in the tank? (I've been trying to maintain doing weekly water changes of @ 30% - 50% and today I noticed a problem. When I do a large water change I have to turn off the power heads I have in the tank for circulation when the water level drops below them. During the time there was no current some of the fry must of become a little adventurous. once the water level was back up enough to return power to the pumps. when the current returned those 8-10 fry that had wandered too far were swept to the far side of the tank and picked off by the 2 juvenile peacock bass in the tank.)

How many weeks should I wait before moving them to my 40 gal tank to grow out? I read somewhere on the forums to move them @ the 6th week or the parents may eat them, but if I wanted to move them sooner what would be the earliest with the expectation that most if not all would survive the move?

After a couple of days as free swimmers as their yolk sacs are gone is when food should be given... Use a turkey baster or something similar to inject food into the water in their area.... I used fry food hikari first bites and another one called baby bites the fry will over time learn to become attracted to the food squirting into the water...
With the fry in the tank I did smaller but more frequent water changes like 10 to 20 percent every other day rather than a large change to avoid too much disruption
If you are intent on going out fry watch the numbers and if you see them start to diminish move the amount you want to raise asap to the grow out tank... I moved mine from the 120 gallon they were spawned in to a 75 to grow out after about two and a half weeks on the night I came home from work and saw I only had 12 fry left..which is now currently 8...I know there is this thing about how they eat mucus off the parents but once they can move around and look for food and eat they don't need to do that in order to survive... I would not say there is a set time that applies to all pairs... depends on how good of parents your pair is...6 weeks maybe a rule of thumb because by that time they will be ready to spawn again and will eliminate threats to the new spawn and also if not for being in a tank those previous fry would have by then left the parents ...if you wait too long provided you have many left it will be a pain getting them out of the tank... get them while you can siphon them out rather than having to net ...watch for aggression between the parents.. I think I rambled a bit but I hope this helps looking forward to seeing your grow outs...
