A little filtration issue.

Here's what I think I'll do.
1. Up to 50% water changes weekly
2. Get some emersed house plants like ivy and Pathos
3. Get a Canister filter
Anything I should add? I like the idea of a coil denitrator... read a little article on it.

No amount of added filtration will help you with your nitrAtes. Adding a canister would only benefit if you were seeing ammonia or nitrIte.
I'm phasing out the use of all penguin/marineland HOB's for the alternative AquaClear HOBs and various canister filters though. The AquaClears have lots of room for biomedia, and if you cut the sponge in half lengthwise, I've found it doesn't get clogged as easily, and isn't as prone to harboring nitrate causing gunk.

Also, in my overstocked 90 gallon, I have to do 2-3 50% water changes weekly to keep nitrAtes in check. I think my water has a lot of chloramine in it, which doesn't help with the nitrAte factor, but what are you gonna do, ya know?
Ah man... I might have to cut back on some stock. I know there's two that are changing to males I'm gonna sell those back for store credit and not replace them. I"m also gonna move my Pleco's. THe best I can do is 2 50% water changes weekly. The water bill will go through the roof... my grandmother won't be happy about that. So I'm gonna have to start helping with that it seems. I'm not using the standard cartriges in the Penguin. I'm using filter sponges. I'm not running chemical filtration on that tank. There's some bioballs I got off someone in the bottom too.
