A little tip for AC110 owners

Agreed. Im running an AC 70 and 110 on a lightly stocked 90g with double sponges in the 110. The 70 has a sponge followed by a layer of poly and the rest is filled with matrix.

Here's another little tip... the replacement sponges are coarser than the one it comes with (at least on the newer version) so I put the finer one on top. Not that it makes a big difference but might make the original sponge last longer.

And for non-AC HOB owners, the AC70 sponges fit perfectly where the cartridges are supposed to go. Just wrap 3 sides with a sheet of polyester batting and place it in with the sponge side facing the intake, then fill the other side with bio media or pothos. I've done this with tetra and marineland HOBs but the aqueons are taller and might need a 110 sponge.

Interesting. Just wondering what's the reason for running ac110 with double sponges. I sure am interested in reducing the flow rate for my ac110 and if this helps with it, i'll definitely add it.

Canister for bio filtration and ac110 for mechanical (water polishing). I use the stock sponge then a layer of poly fill on top of the sponge. Makes the water nice and crispy!

Im running my ac110 alone for my 30 gallon so i think i cant just get rid of my bio media that easily, but i'll find a way to fit a double sponge and my bio media in that small space and also figure something out to reduce the outflow. All these tips just opens up new ideas!!! :)

You could add a sponge to the intake to help reduce the flow, but my 110 has a slide lever on top of the intake/impeller area....yours should have it also

you can adjust the flow rate of the 110 or any AC filter by adjusting the intake pipe to the right or left. left more, to the right less.
