I am using large brilliant rasboras and roseline barbs(petsmart $3.49 sale) for my fish, Lost maybe 20 of the brilliant rasboras but the roseline have held up great!

I have the same problem in my 225, sometimes cause you have a lot of space the fish just claim bigger territories, and if you have dithers then the fish can harrass them instead of the other cichlids.
I have 8 Columbian tetras that are about 5 years old and still going strong

+1 on columbian tetras,fast and get big enough.filament barbs were had for me to find,but they worked well also

my 6" Champsochromis Caeruleus is capable of physically eating the columbians, but theyre too quick and the champ is too well fed.
