I just wanted to show you guys some updated pics of my Yellow Ackie Monitor trio. I built them a new enclosure a few months ago with the internal dimensions of 4'x2'x4'. I constructed the rock wall from plywood, foam sheet insulation and Great Stuff spray foam. I covered the wall with a couple of layers of hydraulic cement and then coated it with my color choice of tile grout. The bottom of the enclosure has about 11 inches of organic soil for digging burrows and hopefully laying eggs in. At the moment I'm using a sliding window for a door but I hope to construct some type of hinged door in the near future.
The female Ackies were added to the tank first and allowed to get use to it for about 2 weeks before I added the male. They've seen each other for about 8 months from separate tanks but they never had the chance to formally meet face to face. Over the first couple of days the one female would chase the male down into the burrow on the bottom of the enclosure but has since then pretty much ignored him. The bigger female is indifferent to him all together. For the most part the females hang together and the male does his own thing. I'm hoping that there will be some interest in mating over the next few months. I realize it's best to start with young babies and allow them to grow up together but I have my fingers crossed and hope to get some eggs. So anyways...enjoy the pics!
