IN YOUR HEAD
i can't seem to find ANY silvers to mix...everything i have tried has ended in disaster...few days/weeks of peace then death...no agression before, just come home to a dead fish...i am so frusterated...i currently have one at 20"+ and one at 13"+-... i have tried a few times to mix and it has only gotten worse in the amount of damage done...

a few weeks ago i tried to mix the 2 i have now and a third in the middle in size... 4 days of peace then i come home to the middle one dead and the smaller one without barbels and shredded, cowering in the corner...

i have since put the smaller one in my 120gal, but i know it wont be long and i'll have to try again or sell one...i have tried everything i can think of to get them to cohab with nothing but dead or almost dead aros to show for it...

i don't know...i just had to vent as i am at a loss on this...i sold a large silver a while ago to try this mixing deal with no luck...i have only been at it for just shy of a year, but still i would thing that i would have had some luck by now...

anyone seem to notice that the agression tward other aros lessens with age of the fish?... if not then i guess i will be waiting several years to try this again as i don't want to sell my big aro and it has already killed a few aros:irked:...

maybe i am just crazy for wanting a school of aros:nilly:

i just got a new computer so i hope to do some updates on my tanks soon...

I'm not sure I know of anyone who has commed adult or teenaged aros. I always thought it could only be done with juveniles.

you really cant do it when you only have 2-3 aros and such big size differences

I once kept a 14" black with a 4" silver and it worked out fine for 4 months until I sold the 14" black.

I have commed aro's for years. And they stay commed as adults.

Main thing is you introduce them at the same time and youngish.

But you need to pay atention, specially with Aussies and Asians. They can cohabit for years and then hell gets loose.

With silvers and blacks I have never had them turning on each other after the years

as everyone has said..if you want to keep 2 aros together or even 3 aros together you have to introduce them together in the tank when they are juveniles..they have to grow and live together in the same tank from the start..this is your best bet i guess..

yep, i have two silver aros that have been together since they were tiny (4ish inches) i can't put another aro in the tank.

i've always heard that you can keep 1 aro or you can keep 6 aros.. anything in between is risking someone getting hurt. now i don't know if that means that they can be introduced when they are older or not?

I think the theory on that is to either spread out the aggression between all the fish, or to crowd them so much they can't become territorial (although aros obviously just swim in the top of the water column, so not sure).

Hey Sbuse.. I tried mixing my 12" aros with my 20" aro once and the largest aro.. she whacked them the minute i put em in there and i had to move them to their own individual tanks.. right now she is around 24" and shares the tank with a 11" RTC.. i now have a tank with two around 18" and one around 15" to 16".. seems calm.. touchwood.. there have not been any fights.. i've seen some occasional nipping but nothin major.. i actually got 50 feeder goldfish and put it in the tank before i added the aros into the tank.. i always try to keep their belly full and all seems well.. anyways mate.. try again.. prob same size aros.. how big is the tank? or if you really dont mind.. give all the aros you have now and jus get 5 to 6 smaller ones.. think that should work.. all the best mate..
