anybody have any advice on introducing a silver with my 12/13" black???

i have read the silver should be smaller but how small?

depends on each of them.

Blacks normally are mellow, so a couple of inches smaller the silver should do the trick.

keep a waqtchfull eye, however.

I previously had a large silver and added another adult silver without any issue. They lived together in peace until I gave them away.

I currently have 2 15-16" silvers living together just fine. They did fight for the first week or 2 and then stopped. I think tank size has a lot to do with it.

of course. tank size, currents, dither fish, the fish individual personality, water temps, etc

thanx for the encouragement...

it is a 180gal(6x2x2)...i have tried with every aro size from 2-3" on up to the stated size...i had a black that was in the mix, but it to was agressive and it ended up getting some strange bloat deal that i couldn't cure...the best results i have had was with 5x 5" silvers, but that damn mono pbass ate the smaller ones...

tankmates are as follows

1x 20"+ fl gar
1x 13" endli
1x 11" ornate
3x 10"+ sens
1x 18" clown knife(just died)
4x 5" IT dats

lots of aquatic cellary, hanging roots(from my hydrophonics) and swards for cover (i have since removed the cellary)...i had them very well fed, as i don't want to box with a full stomach so they should'nt(in theroy)...had night lights...

i may try again, but it has just been depressing to fail time and time again...all the while lossing fish...i have had as many as 11 silver/ 1 black aro at once for mixing and one jar that i didn't what to throw into the mix...i know it is possible for some, i just have'nt got it yet...

Sorry to hear Scott, I know it's frustrating. There is no sure fire advice that can be given for this. For every example or suggestion given for success there is an equal failure.

Best advice is to make sure you have separate tanks to house the two arowana if things go bad. I mixed my black aros in with silvers, when one was 20" with two 27" silvers. The second black was added at 15" with a 25" black and two 29" silvers.

thanx brian, i just hate being on the failure side of this quest...eventually i will get some that will mix...i just don't know if i want to put the funds and fish through the test of time, just to please my own wants...

i may just grow out the smaller one and try when they are both bigger, for a "freash start"...i rember something along the lines of some of your aros not mixing to start...then after some growing out they mixed...we'll see how that goes...the tanks are next to eachother so they will always see eachother and i hope that it will help...

when i first put the tanks end to end the aros were tring to kill eachother through the glass...now they have stopped...i just hope that it is a good sighn that they are getting a custom to eachother and not just that they have realized they can't get to eachother...
