Do these guys lose color as they get older? Every adult pic I've seen looks washed out and drab compared to younger specimens. Anyone have pics or experience with this?
from what I understand, male lyonsi only have real good color when a female is present. meaning, more so than other amphs & CAs.
I've kept them singly and in pairs and saw no difference in coloration except when stressed/scared/pissed. Here's a pic of my old male by himself and another of him with his mate

I also forgot to say to the OP, males are less colorful in my experience as they lack the red close to the abdomen but I think it makes them look better as it makes the "flowerline" really stand out. In all other aspects their color is on the same level in my opinion. I always liked Tri's but couldn't take their aggression so a Lyonsi just seemed a good alternative and they are. Not too aggressive as far as Amph's go and get to a respectable size.
