A. Lyonsi color?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've kept them singly and in pairs and saw no difference in coloration except when stressed/scared/pissed. Here's a pic of my old male by himself and another of him with his mate
....
thanks for correction. some regular member here (can't recall who) had told me not to expect seeing male lyonsi colors really pop if I kept a single. his didn't. he must've missed other factors at play.

Thanks for the info and pics! Yours look great. I love trimacs too, but the aggression is bad for a community tank.

Thanks, I appreciate the compliment! I had the same reason for getting them instead of the Tri's, I had hoped to have a comm. tank.

Beautiful fish! Wow

No problem man, as for the other member he/she may have had that happen as fish are individuals and maybe his refused to color up except in the presence of a female. I'll only say that in my opinion his was probably a one off. Since cichlids are generally aggressive they're given to display in the presence of other fish, so as long as you give them tankmates(dithers sex wouldn't matter) to display for you'll usually see them display their best colors in attempt to assert dominance.
