A man and a fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congrats! I can't even fathom how awesome it must feel to finally own a fish you have been after for three years, much less the specific fish that started it all for you.

Thanks guys, yeah it's pretty good to finally have her and to see her in proper care, she looks even better this morning after some settle in time in her new home.

Etan: Full name is paratilapia polleni, she is about as big as a female will get, a male would probably be about an inch or so larger fully grown, so you're looking at around 20 t0 30 cm.
I would say if you're looking at getting tank mates large plecos are pretty much ignored by all my polleni so they are a good choice. If you go with cichlids I would say anything that would not be perceived as a threat might work, but I would say definitely don't go with another dark colored cichlid.
As for params they really aren't fussy, my ph is about 7.6 and my temp is 29 degrees Celsius (not sure what that is in Fahrenheit).

congratulations, im glad you were the one who was able to get her

On second thoughts I would be careful with plecos, she has taken to bullying mine now, I guess it's up to individual fish and what they will tolerate. I'm considering building a large acrylic tank because I'm running out of room.....

Thanks for the info. I saw a fish a long time ago whose common name was the Starry Night Cichlid. Is that what this fish is?
