Thanks. I figured it was the substate affecting the color...I do wish I'd been able to find black sand for as cheap as I did this play sand, but I just don't see that being possible. Oh well...I think the tank will still end up looking good.

Quick picture with the sand and first set of rocks/driftwood. The artificial cave on the right is only in as a bacteria colony, it'll come out once the tank 'matures' a bit. I've gotta figure out how to fill a little bit of space near the mid-level of the aquarium (I'm thinking a tall piece of driftwood that can branch or lean over towards the middle from the side) and get more rocks & whatnot for caves.

Current (planned) stocklist is
2x senegal bichir (these guys are already in there, but will come out if/when the tank starts the ammonia spike)
1x jack dempsey
??? We don't really know what else we want in there:\ I'm thinking firemouths, would like to get jewels but I think they're too aggressive for the bichirs. I might add an african brown knife, maybe some angelfish. Not really sure yet. I'm open to ideas though:)
