A Night of Death and Beginnings

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know its an old thread now, but I just wanted to thank everyone. :) Most everyone on this website gets what it means to lose a special fish, and it was nice to hear from everyone who understands.

As for the car, I don't give a rats @$$ what it is. Its some classic BMW or Mercedes. Usually, I'd be totally excited, but its my stupid landlord's who promised he'd move it and never has. No I'm not going to do something purposely bad to it, but I did finally decide that if it gets scratched because we're trying to work around it, I don't really care. It would be his fault since its taking up half of the garage that we are paying for. The damn thing isn't even movable if we needed to move it. :irked:

Oh, well. Jokes on him. Now I'm getting a 600 gallon tank. :D So, that means (600+100+180+100+94+20+55+40+30+10+20= )1249 gallons in tanks, plus 220 gallons of R/O water, and then if and when we set up the 400 gallon pond is more water than he ever intended this place to see. :D

lol @ the landlord we had a property management company when my wife and I were at the condo (Pre my little girl) and had been told one small pet only (meaning dog or cat) they came by once before we were getting ready to move out and were shocked by the amount of fish. needless to say i found a loop hole in their 1 pet rule.

have you gotten the pond setup yet? pics?

RIP, good luck with new set up looks cool.

Tonight I found my big L014 Pleco, Frank the Tank (aka Frankie), dead. I was in tears. I was so sad to have lost my first and beautiful monster. He helped us win "Picture of the Year" from AquariaCentral.com last year as the center piece of our discus tank. He was already a big guy 12 inches tip to tip we we got him a year and a half ago. When I measured him tonight, I found he had grown to 13.5 inches. He's been struggling for the past several months, and nothing I've done has brought him back to full health. I do think the big guy was old.
I had decided at 9:30 at night to make sure the water in my 180/100 system was okay to find that the water was perfect, and yet I could not find my Frankie. I knew immediately he was dead, and sure enough he was floating at the top of the tank. I measured him, put him in a bag, laid him in a box, and reluctantly set him in the trash. I knew I could not handle finding him in my freezer.
This is his album I've had up here at MFK:

However, my night was not all sadness. Tonight I picked up a 385 gallon fiberglass tank/pond. (BTW the gallonage is the inside measurements). We're going to cut out the side and put in a piece of acrylic, build it into a plywood skinned tank, and give out big cats a great new home. It makes me feel better to know that we are moving forward and giving our absolute best to giving these fish the best home they could possibly find.

I guess it was a night of change...

Do you by chance have a company name or manufacture name on that fiberglass tub??

Thanks

That tub came from a guy who no longer manufactures them. He was clearing out his inventory via craigslist. That project got put on hold as were getting the 600. I'm
not sure what I'll do with it now. Maybe a pond sump in the backyard, or pond in the garage? Who knows. :)
