is any possibility to have other guys with pair of aurantimaculata in 800 l/220 gallon tank. I have 15" channa maruliodes maybe asian arowana will work....I know nothing about behaviour of pair of auranti.....

have other tank 2000l with notopterus/cichlids/gurami small dantoides.

what do you think?

no a pair of auranti will kill anything you put in there , that is if they are a true pair , if they are not a true pair two aurantis are not going to work either , because they hate each other ,only true pairs will get along .

another reason why it would not work , auranti are sub-tropical and should be kept at lower temps 18-24c they start to breed at around 20c , your tropical fish arowana ect would allmost certainly die at theese temps.

if you havnt all ready bought the aurantis , and are determined to have other fish as well ,then at least look towards one of the tropical species , (not micro as they will also eventually eat everthing) pleuro of obscura and stick to just one snakehead .

cheers col

those are a true pair (mating), I will buy it on sunday from private person :) for me its not a problem to have only those pair in 800l tank but present owner has a gurami, clarias, and skalar (shock!) and aurantis in one tank and its working. maybe there are too young or have a peacefull personality ;) I don't know......

but what could be an asian fellow for this pair? in river in India live more other species probably.

they look like a nice pair , i suspect that they are tolerating the other fish because they are not ready to breed yet , when they are ready to breed they will not tolerate any other fish in the tank . they look big enough to breed now , so they are probably being kept at tropical temps , at tropical temps they loose they instinct to breed , when you get them introduce them slowly to sub tropical temps and you will find they are much more active and show even better colours , personally i would not put other fish with them . anyway wish you luck with them

ok. so tank for pair only:) so I want to prepare a biotope, setup what kind of plants? (which tolerate low temperature), wood, roots ok? I have hard tap water. what kind of light? etc.maybe do you have some photo recomendation?

the size of the tank is 190cmx55cm, and 75cm h.

hi mate , to be honest i depends what is available in your are , the most important factors for setting up a auranti tank are cover both floating and in the tank , where there caught it is allways reported tht there is a lot of aquatic vegitation and esp floating vegitation , to be honest i really like the look of the tank there comming out of ,it looks very well set-up , the other important part of an auranti set-up is the need for some sort of cave ,it is thought this is important to them breeding ,personaly i use a large root that forms a cave on the underside

for tru bio-tope here is a link for some ideas http://www.aqua-fish.net/show.php?h=indianburmeseriver

i personally have just gone for a cheep collection of plants from e-bay something like this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/100-Live-Aqua...39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

but i still need more floating plants in mine , there are a couple of pics of mine plus a couple of pics of habitat to give you some ideas

cheers col

tropheus thanks, more ask about other channa, Channa maculata, how it works with own species? for example, not want to pair it but to have more than one, for example three?in my biggest 2000l tank with lots of tankmates, they have 15 cm now.

50 cm maruliodes with adult maculata. Is it possible?

about auranti my plan is to low a temp. ,maybe to soft a water and we will see, any good advice about breeding?

tell me something about activity and personality of channa maculata? comparing with other channas. I know auranti, maruliodes, pulchra, asiatica :)
