thats like every fish store i go to nuthing new sad but they usually have the best prices and there fish dont stay there long

What I cant get over this week was that the WalMart by me had better looking fish that the LFS's. I'm still trippin about it. They ALL looked good.

Personally, I'm wondering why anyone so ignorant about fish keeping would even bother with a fish store - according to a post on AC from a fish store owner, this is definitely not the kind of thing you want to be doing unless you realy like fish.

Halo, that is the worst care of lfs mismanagement I have heard about. Should be shut down. If dogs were kept in this manner, there would be fines and it would be shut down.

Isn't this what some of our sponsors do too while fish are on hold? (haven't you seen pics of large rays and catfish in small holding tank only with sponge filters?) Or look at what sort of ordeal the animals in this hobby go through in exporters' facilities.

Blaming local petshops alone is too naive and irresponsible. We who are in the hobby should also think about where we are in perpetuating abuse and neglect in this pet industry. For this reason, I'm frankly turned off by display of tanks on fish forums that are overstock (why do people need to have that many fish from the wild in their possession?). It is not too dissimilar to the effects the wealthiest nations of the world are having on environment and gross socioeconomic injustices due to their overspending and unwillingness to compromise their lifestyles.

That's just sad, wow. And why do you hate Petco? I know it's a store more for noobs, but I don't think it's bad at all.

Petco varies from region to region. There is an overwhelming number of minimum-wage employees that don't really care about fish or buy into the ancient 60's fishkeeping myths. If Petco or any petstore actually offer a bit more salary, then the specialists would be more willing to come out of the woodworks.

Exactly, If MCD's was hiring, they would be there for the "shift meal".
Not the "specialists", but the current employees.
