A planted African tank?? The fishies don't think so!

I will not be having a planted tank with THIS guy around. I should have known; those beady eyes, the down turned mouth. A PLANT EATER! He even was eating the distasteful onion plant. I did not have time to sit and watch the tank until tonight and found the guilty fish red-handed, (I mean red-finned) with his mouth full. I put the plants back in different tanks where the plants are decorations and not dessert. Isn't that why we here at MFK have so many tanks?!?!

So I thought I would try a planted African cichlid tank.

The fish have a different idea on aquascaping.


I know that some of you got it to work. I just do not have the right kinds of fish to make it work; to many herbivores.

I had Java fern in with my Malawis, with quite some success.
As they can be tied to rocks, wood etc, they tend to stay put while the cichlids are happily fossiking around in the sub!
