A question for those who keep their gar out doors?

It's going ot also depend alot on the size of the pond (gallons) as well as it's depth how well the fish will fair over winter. deeper ponds tend to hold fish better. as do larger ponds. also wether it is well stocked with oxygeneting plants. I wouldn't try and winter a gar in a 300 gallon pond simply from temp fluxes it's likely to be exposed too along with lack of o2 capacity of the volume of water over-all. If you're worried about a freeze a simple floating heater for koi ponds may be your answer though you may have to rig it in an area the gar won't have access too to avoid them comeing up into it or burning themselves on the element.
