A Question of Morals..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would not sell them, I would do as others have said and keep them in an education tank. But that will take up you space and tank for fish that can be sold. I know you should not have to be responsible for them, it sounds really cruel and I know I will get flamed but If you cant keep them I would think about euthanasia. And I would look for a new supplier.

It is not the fishes fault this was done to them. Keep them and give them a good quality of life, while using them to educate others. Then voice your displeasure with the supplier.

Voice displeasure? Nah. Just get a new one. And tell any other LFS keepers you know to do the same.

maybe tell the supplier why you are unhappy and then get a new supplier, so the old supplier will know why they are losing business and hopefully can change their ways

TBH customers are cruel. I see dyed fish sell pretty quickly at stores that sell them. The LFS I work at doesn't, but customers care more about a certain color in their tank than the health and well being of the fish which leads me to believe that many customers will still buy dyed fish.

I say dump the supplier because they consider dyed blood parrots "oddball" fish. :wall:

Twofish, I agree with your first statement, but to voice displeasure may cause the supplier to be cooperative in filling orders for Noa. I'd just move on to supplier with greater moral ethics and pride in their work, along with the types quality of fishes they provide to retailers. If Noa's store doesn't order for a week or two from this wholesaler, which I feel doesn't deserve the Noa's business, then it's their own demise. Maybe if the wholesaler is put on the County Attorney Generals Black List (Black Balled)for poor business ethics, then the wholesaler might wake up and die right.

Agreed 100%. Have them file formal written complaints to the County A.G. too. The sooner he starts loosing business, they sooner he'll hopefully move on.

Twofish, your intentions and suggestions come from a good hearted person, but I seriously doubt the wholesaler will change their work ethics and mroals. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

I agree with setting up the educational tank if space permits.

Noa, I too agree ^. GSM and others have suggested this outstanding idea. Don't forget to name names of this feeble minded, unethical wholesaler when you put up your educational sheet. Implore people not to by fish supplied by this wholesaler. Educating people is half the battle. Educate and encourage other shops and shop owner's who sell fresh and salt water fish, not to purchase from this wholesaler. Get their support too, to help shut this sucker down. Send them a message they'll not soon forget. Do it diplomatically, though. Now that I've spoke my mind, I'd be willing to help you getting this accomplished. Send me a PM if this is a do-able thing for you.

Edit: DIPLOMACY - TELLING AN UNETHICAL WHOLESALER TO GO TO HE_ _ , IN SUCH A WAY, TO WHERE THEY ACTUALLY LOOK FORWARD TO THE TRIP!
