A red Devil in a tank full of Africans?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think I will try it. My Mbuna are pretty agressive and run the tank. They have killed other haps as well. I have a venustus in their as well. I love RD's but the wife WILL NOT and I repeat WILL NOT allow me another tank. The current one takes up half the living room. So I have to make due.

i would say it depends on how much you like your africans. because sooner or later, some of them willl get murked.. i picked up a 6-7" red devil for a friend of mine to have in his 90 gallon for when he gets back from basic trainging, and he had some silver dollars and other dithers in the 90 to keep it cycled while he was away, i dropped his suprise red devil in, and when i came back the next day to feed them, two silver dollars were ripped apart, and they are fasttt fish

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he doens't bother them. My experience with Amphilophus may me limited (I've had 3 big ones) but they all show the same behaviour. They hate other big cichlids and don't mind the small ones. Even if he does attack them at least you got a few so aggression will be spread. I'd say go for it.

I have a 7.5" red devil who is breeding with a pink convict in a tank with Yellow Labs and Blue Haps and Catfish (2 x raphaels, featherfin Syno, gibbi plec)...in a 100g, so far (2 months) he ignores them.
