I would agree with Anne! Most bichers take a least several years to become sexually mature. I had an ornate that I was pretty sure was a female at the 12" size, but wasn't really convinced until the first time she swelled with eggs at about 17" and six years of age!

At what size would a delhezi and an ornat.(and other upper jaws) become sexually mature? How about lower jaws?

At what size can you determine their sex? I have a 5.75" Ornate right now.

5.75" is too small to sex. i'd say around 11"-12" is when ornates can be sexed fairly reliably. i too agree with anne's and hapdude's replies.

I actually feed it cut pieces of frozen Mahi Mahi from Costco. I'll get some more pictures later.

*SO* excited! I had one of my 55s covered for 4 days to get rid of an algae bloom... I just uncovered it in time to see my DEL Cyclops flexing his anal fin It's a BOY! YAY! I'm not sure how I didn't notie before - except that Cyclops stays on the bottom of the tank and has no problem finding food (despite being half blind) and maintains the shape of a P. Polli - nice and round and hiding his goodies beneath his big belly. Well hey at least I didn't name it Flower or something lol
