A. Rivulatus not 'original' Green Terror?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
nope...I was suprised at the mix and I'm VERY suprised at the growth rate. If they weren't so camera shy I'd post pics...They arrived healthy and most are already showing some color a month or so later.

This guy was trying to peddle these a little while back that he claimed were TRUE GT.

That was an interesting read. He must be very good at selling stuff because aequidens sp's are very hard to sell especially 1" fry's for a high price. I can't even sell my adult aequidens latifrons from comlobia to the LFS for $15 and he claims he sells his fry's to the LFS for $15 each. LOL

Jeff imported some of the 'true' ones back in the summer of 2004. He charged a pretty penny for them and now there are some F1 and F2's available... someone on this forum is/was selling some recently.

he also imported them in late 06 for his last time, that's when me and acestro got ours.

Sorry I'm late on these threads!

I initially made that mistake of calling my guys true A. rivulatus because of how Rapp's labelled them. But the cichlidforums site has a good discussion on this, as does a thread I threw together at thewatersnake. There's at least 4 species involved here and you guys pretty much covered it all exactly right.

Just out of curiosity F1 is the first spawn of a male right? If so, why are F1 fry so much more desirable than later generations?

F1 indicates that the parents are wild. To have any spawn you need a male. :D

They're more desirable because the genetics haven't become crap from inbreeding due to limited stock.

Jeff Rapps and AquariumPAEX both had true wild A. Rivulatus available to them a few years back..

They were collected in Peru, while many of the other variants come from other locales.. The collector, which harvested them out of a very strange area, realized how profitable they were and inflated the prices, I believe he struck an exclusive deal with a major exporter who works with Asia primarily.

There is alot of confusion about all of it, and it seems like everyone has their own opinions..

We had 4 of them.. 1 jumped out on the floor, 1 was sold on aquabid for $5 because no one realized what it was or believed us, 1 was sold to a local gal who never was heard from again, and the other was eaten by a carapo knife.

After that, they become near impossible to acquire.. Rapps wanted them from the same collector, and was going to import from AquariumPAEX. However, the collector suddenly dropped contacts with PAEX, but the fish still seem to find their way to Rapps. Those shifty peruvians at work again.

Maybe someday, some of these GT 'experts' will collaborate and get their story straight.
