A soft skin pool as a pond?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
do you have forced air heating? if so you could put a coil in the furnace outlet and pump water thru there. wouldnt kill you on energy but should work well.

k thanks. So i woulnd't neet to heat it with fish that survive the winter rigth?
So heres the stock
6 LMB
15 Bluegill
1 Catfish (Ideas)
Okay for the filtration im having the pool filter that comes with it, and then the 6,000 gallon also, here was one of my ideas having my in pipe conect to my irigation water and use that during the summer to fill the pool easily. Then have a out going into my sprinkler systeme, the box is right by were i want so i could easily make this hookup. I cant burry it thats why im leaning towards the cold water setup. Or what im thinking of doing is doing sumthing like this, buy three 120's during winter put my cichlids in the 120, then during summer move them out to the pond, then during spring bring my natives in to the 120's then during winter return them to the pond.

This would limit my fish capacity but i think it will be worth it, especially seeing the size diffreance of the fish in those winter months

it wouldn't kill me or it would??
well my houses heating fernace is in the garage by where i am planning on putting the tank, is there a waay i could have a in and out and just have the water run throug there?/

Is the irritation system on well or city water? And yes that is not a typo. I hate working w/irrigation systems. The fish list will be easiest w/natives that can take the temp. flucuations and extremes.

Remember you'll loose all biological filtration under 55*F

What is this "irrigation water" you speak of?

Dr Joe

.

i live in a semi rural area, i mean theres a canal that feeds to some farms a few miles away form my house and all the houses in my subdivision gets water from this canal. It has some chemicals, idk what they are but i know they aren't like any fertalizer.

I would really need to know what "chemicals" are in this canal water before I can say it's safe for the fish. And if rainwater runoff can get in anything can.

Do you have a filter system of any kind on your house for this water?

Dr Joe

i dont think so, i dont think theres chemicals but there might be farm runoff, but taht would be like .001 ppm probably not that consentrated because all the farms are later off, but theres probably some organisms in there. I bet its gonna be safe. Step on is done convincing my padre about letting?helping me get it done. But i need some questions answered.
A. Do i have to have the filter runnig 24 7? could i do like 12 hours a day.
B. Instead of filtering during the summer, mostly to save money, could i just hook up the irigation and sprinkel systemes so that everyone day and a half about the whole water is changed and filled with new water.

Another hting is how many lmb and bluegill can i fit in there? i was thinking something like 5 lmb and then around 10 bluegill.

What u think?

okay heres the deal so far.
The pool- http://www.target.com/Intex-Cover-EasySet-Pool-Filter/dp/B000YPQO06/sr=1-12/qid=1222545965/ref=sr_1_12/601-6044234-1645720?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3APools&page=1
its 652 gallons i chose this one because its a bit smaller but still pretty big its 625 gallons. i might be able to get it in the garage that would help? another thing i was thinking is jsut heating it. whats the cheapest way i can get this done? if i get like a heating pad and put under the pool would that work.
Heres my idea on that, buy a pond heater and have that on only during winter, then have the heating pad under the pool on all the time, and lastly get black pads or black substrate to help capture heat during the summer and when the sun is up.
Okay, since im planning on heating it would someone help me find a adequete heater? it usually gets around 40 during the coldess winter months.
So heres my tropical stock list (not finalized)
okay so for stocking would doing like 1 male dovii and then like four or five females work? i mean would the pair that forms kill the rest? if so would something like this work. 1 pair of doviis, 1 pair of black nastys, and then lastly 1 pair of umbees

Thanks guys i owe so much to you all and ill for sho hit u guys up with pictures.

Reference a link for these heating pads please.

So the LMB's are out?

Are you sure this water source has a high enough DO to support fish?
