If you own a Dovii couple, then I have a strange, interesting suggestion to prevent the male from attacking the female. Here's my idea-I'm thinking that you can build a "mannequin" of a fish, and paint it or something to look like another cichlid, perhaps another male Dovii, and simply put it in the tank. What I'm thinking is that the real male will take out all of his aggression on the "mannequin", or "fishequin" in this case, and that way you can minimize, or totally prevent, aggression towards the female-naturally, I'm thinking you can try this with any large, aggressive cichlid couple. Do you think that would work? Would anyone be willing to test this idea out?

This is just my opinion, but REALLY cant see this working. Even if it worked at 1st then it would only last for a short amount if time. Fish arent stupid....... Much better of getting a divider and then re introducing slowly. Thats what I do and it works.

I agree, it wont work at all. even mirrors only work for certain fish and Dovii are one of the smartest cichlids out there. your best bet would be using the divider technique. Also keep in mind that when pairing out dovii they can be very aggressive and you may not want to leave them undivided but usually thats just typical courting behavior for some. But for beginners i suggest using the divider untill your comfortable and know how to read the fish better. And that fishquin was a neat idea, its nice to see creativity but this idea wont play out as planned.

use a larger fishing lure without the hooks. ;) all shapes and colors and sizes. strom makes some nice panfish design just cut the main hook off and remove the second one.

I don't have the time or space to keep a Dovii, but I thought it would be a cool idea anyway. However, I can't tell you how bad I want to get a Dovii couple! Do you have any experience with Motaguense cichlids? I've been thinking about selling my 55 for a 75 and getting one of those.

my friend had a pair of breeding rtm in his 29 until last week. there now in a 60. i have a breeding pair of rtm in a 60, a pair in a 90, and a pair in a 110 gal. youd love a pair of mota. and im sure jason can think of a few ideas about keeping motas lollll. he might have a few swimming around = )

LOL yeah i have a few;) i would sell the 55 and keep the 75 for motas. i have batches available every 6-8 weeks. i have some right now till friday then im cleaning house;) unless your looking for a pair then im sure are some pairs availble out there. I personally love growing out my own and pairing them off.and motas are definitely more manageable than dovii and you dont need such large tanks.

Do Motaguense couples tend to have problems with aggression? How are they in terms of personality? I've heard that they're interactive, fun glassbangers, but I've also heard that they hide all the time.

i havent had any aggression with my pair and they are always out and about, dont hide. mine arent glassbangers yet, the female will fish face me when there fry in the tank. I totally recommend trying them:)

What's the best diet and recommended filtration for a pair of Motaguense cichlids? I was thinking about Cichlid Gold pellets and an Emperor 400 filter. Can you give me any better suggestions?
