A tank for college

That is quite an endeavor. I took a 29 gal community with me when I lived in apartment. It was more work than I thought.

Most dorms will allow tanks up to 10 gal. The one thing I would want to check is whether or not they leave the power on over breaks like spring break and fall break. Mine didn't. Any time we had a break longer than two days I had to take my tank with me.
 
So i was doing a but more research and was contemplating a few celestial pearl danios, but they are a little to pricy for me and i came across rasbora brigittae and was thinking a small school of them instead of the betta .

Sometimes these little tank projects can be the most fun. Sounds like a perfect stock-list (although I would rather go with the Rasboras you mentioned, I've never liked betas).
 
That betta looks sweet i love the metallic look but i do think i will go with the rasboras, their size fits what i want better

That's why I moved to my college town. Then I could build as much as I want. At the end of semesters you also find really good deals on 30+ gallon tanks. That's how I got my fully set up 50, 45 gallon and a 30 gallon tank for a total of $50. Also have the opportunity for cheap, cool fish.
