I'd like to hear some opinions about thermometers. I have a few probe types but I'm not crazy about the fact that they require battery power. For kicks, I recently took a bunch of my 'analog' glass thermometers and put them all in the same tank next to each other. I was horrified at the results. There was as much as 4 degrees difference among them. Not good at all. I don't want my fish to stress out in 74 degree water while I'm thinking it's at 78.
Please contribute to..........The thermometer thread :D

I keep a single glass theremometer. I let it float wherever the current takes it. I also have heaters set on thermostats; they are set to not let my tanks get below 72* (which they never will, at least not during the summer here in FL).

with the fish I keep, as long as the water is between 72 and 82, I should be fine.

i check mine with the climate control center on my house, generally the old glass analog are the best, however my probe digital is .2 degrees different from my best glass therm.

i use the glass ones with the lil suction cup.. my tanks/fish are healthy and i dont keep any fish that are super sensitive so a few degrees is not going to kill them..

I use corallife digitals ... so far there pretty reliable. Although they use a battery ive had one for two years and it still has the original battery .

Funny I just use those little sticky thermometers that just stick on to the outside glass.

good info. The last digital I used wore the battery down in only a few months but it was some odd brand. Forgot the name. I'm wondering if anyone here uses thermometers that have a built in alarm in case of heater failure. If so, please rate it!

They're cheap and easy to read, I have stealth heaters which work well.
