You're looking at months (2-3+) til they breed and the fry grow large enough to sell. In that time the Ramen diet could probably earn enough to do it without selling the camera, and the fry sales would just be profit.

Dunno, I'd probably sell the camera to upgrade the camera, but I wouldn't sell it to upgrade a tank.

Wouldn't you be better off being patient and saving a few bucks a week or a month and getting your fish a bit later?
You won't get anywhere near what you want for your camera and photography is one of those hobbies that doesn't cost anything as you already have the gear.

Fish cost money even after initial purchase, more if you are breeding. You have to remember it is not just the fish; there is food, electricity, medications, replacements, replacement equipment, repairs, fry tanks, equipment for fry tanks, etc. If money is already tight and you don't have them, it makes sense to wait.

Personally I would wait and save a few bucks per week/month to get the fish because you will regret selling the cam for the tiny sum of money it will bring compared to what it cost and what it will cost to replace.

Starting up a fish tank is not a good idea when money is tight, setting up for breeding is even worse of an idea when money is tight. It can only make things harder.

+1 Be patient.

Then it's an easy decision, imo. Sell the camera, finish your setup, then save up for a dslr. :headbang2

I like the Idea of getting to do what I love to do to do what i love to do more :irked: haha if that made any sense. electicity isent a big deal to me cause I dont have my own place so I dont pay for it :D but im out of job and they only way I make money is selling stuff so that hole save a few bucks a week doesn't work for me lol:)

Get a part time job somewhere, even fast food or convenience stores will usually take some part time help. Pay isn't the best, but you're not looking to buy a yacht, just boost your hobby budget.

I see what you are saying, just trying to help you see the whole picture before you jump in and end up completely strapped for cash.
Can you afford to feed fish, medicate fish, repair/replace equipment, obtain replacement fish or buy extra equipment if you went with breeding seeing as you are currently unemployed?

Of course this all depends massively on what equipment you have, brand and if it is new or 2nd hand; and whether you go cheap with food or premium. You may only buy guppies for all I know so replacements will be along by the dozen.

I have been keeping fish for 25 years. photography has been my hobby for 40 years with close to 10,000.00 investsd in equiptment. I could'nt do without either but if I was forced to make a choice, well fishies, it was good to know you.
