I'd like to think that the Celtic Samurai would be proud.......

These cats were sent to me from Jeff Rapps on behalf of John Omalley's family after his passing. They were teenagers back then.

They are beautiful! What species are they exactly and how big are they most of my catfish experience is with plecos.
Megalodoras uranoscopus is the species...... Commonly refered to as Irwinni. I'm seeing max size of 24" and weight of 10lb on the interwb. IF these things didn't get so angry when moved I'd love to see how they stack up against those measurements cause I'm sure they have to be very close to that - I feel like weight might be heavier then 10lbs..... The tank they are in is 3' deep. I know I've taped my smaller ones at 18-19".

Thanks for the Information. I do remember seeing them under the irwinni name years ago. I'm going to have to move to the USA, you guys seem to have access to a lot more species and the tank sizes available are enviable!!

Its funny you say that - my favorite ray I've ever owned had to be imported from Canada.......

Rays we have just like Asian aro's. But our catfish and CA/SA cichlid selection is sorely lacking. I have to drive a couple of hours to toronto to go to 3 or 4 places just to find much past the staple aquarium species

I have not had the good fortune to meet John, but it's clear that he was a great and dearly missed man. These are fantastic fish, and it's awesome that his memory is being kept by the good care they receive.

If they were teenagers when you received them, they should be 30 or near it by now. I hope they'll continue on for many more years.
