FISHKILL,NEW YORK
a friend of mine has rescued an 18" beautiful redtail catfish from a friend. he came from an overcrowded 125 gallon tank with very poor water conditions. he is turned almost completly upside down, breathing heavy and is arched. he is in a clean 75 gallon tank right now and is not improving. is there anything we can do to help the poor fish? my heart breaks everytime i look at him.(he's been like this for 3 days)

I dont know how well you acclimated him into his new home, but even if you take a fish out of an extremely dirty tank and put him into a perfectly clean tank its still an extreme change an that alone will cause a ton of stress. i had the same thing with a two foot rtc I brougt it out of a dirty tank which it was sluggish and lathargic with broken barbs and brought it to my 240 which is clean and unfornuately it succombed to the stress of the water conditions be changed to suddenly. Since you now have moved him I would leave the lights off and try to keep the stress to an absolute minimum. Unfortunately it may be too late. GL.

A couple of thousand gallons would suit nicely. Not always possible in reality so a 14ftx6ftx3ft could do.

A 8 foot diameter 2 1/2 foot high would also do.:) 14 seems a bit long, even for a 4 foot fish.

8 foot long tank for a 4' fish imo is not suitable i would go with the 14' long tank especially a rtc a 4' he could break an 8' long tank.
