Do they do better in pairs or anything. Should I get two for my 125. If not cool, JW.

Ok, im only 14 and dont have that much knowlege of fish but i think BGK are EXTREMLY territorial of its own species so i would go with only one but someone will probably correct me :) i have only had one it only survived like 6 months[/quote]

Nope get 1 as they will fight in pairs..If you had a hUge tank a group of 5-6+ would be ok

Okay kool one it is. I don't want any fighting.

I'll just get like a 4-5 incher BGK. The aro will be small, hell might even have the egg sac when I get him. And if any agression happens that is damaging to the BGK, I'm prepared to put him in a different tank. We'll see, I know aros grow fast, not sure on the BGK but I'll try it.

just my opinion, i dont think its best to have 2 of them together, but i am not an expert, not even close lol

i wud get 4 african brown knifes
they wudnt be too territorial in a big tank and they only get about 9 inches as compared to 16" on a bgk
they are great fish, mine is about 6-7 inches and loves to eat worms, shrimp, bloodworms, beefheart, crickets, right out of my hand :headbang2

Few other questions for you all.:)

Do BGK's like caves. I'll have a bare tank. But would he like a cave to himself to get away from the bichirs and aro when he wanted to. Nothing major just a PVC painted black kinda deal. And if he should have one, do they like small, tight caves or just big ones that they can easily fit in?

Mine's in love with a little structure I made using PVC corners and slate rock. Two corners are layed next to each other, so it looks like "UU"... Then I stacked flat slate rock on it to give it a "shelter" feel. My BGK lives behind this contraption for most hours of the day, taking breaks in between to swim in and out of the PVC, and getting bubble massages in the hole of a canyon rock - Yes, i'm serious. :grinno:

I'd say as long as he can comfortably move in and out of whatever you decide to use, and it doesn't get occupied by anything else, it will work.

Check here to see my setup. Just to show you, and maybe give you some ideas.

ya i still think a group of african brown knife fishes would be amazing!!!

Nobody is saying it wouldn't be amazing. A group of African Brown Knifefish would be pretty cool, but BGKs are a mesmorizing fish, especially when they get larger. If he wants one, he should definately go for it.

;)

Some sort of cover is needed for the BGK or they will hide behind filters. I've found that the more cover there is the more comfortable they seem to be and this leads to them venturing out during the day, especially when you're feeding them.
