ABK parasite treatments?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thought of eggs/gravid early-on, but the wee-willy-thingie points backwards = male.

Thanks, I'll ask the pharm & vet for praziquantel.
There's a dose page on MFK, maybe related to clown loach skinny-syndrome?
Dose the whole tank, or soak his food?

Googling - damn, it seems we'd recently given our COVID-stash of equine-Ivermectin to the neighour, though I suppose the apple flavouring wouldn't have been good for the fish ;)
Dose the whole tank

"...bulge has been growing over time. Could it be something similar?"
Could be some sort of growth or a cancer, sure.

Thanks P phreeflow - is this in case others also have infection or for simplicity? I ask as it's a ~130gal "live water" system and I'd love to not risk or kill some of the more exotic elements of the filter. I have an empty old-school 15 & an 5gal acrylic raceway, so relocation for treatment's pretty straightforward.

Both…it’s simpler and if it indeed has internal parasites, then all your fish will get it.

Elsewhere on MFK I've seen posted/recommended 100ml of the praziquantel liquid per 1000L of aquarium - agreed?
This stuff has proven elusive on my island; I can get powders & tubes of apple-flavoured paste for livestock, but no simple/raw liquid form.

I’ve see others hobbyist post about febendazole for dogs related to aquariums. Seen used 1g for every 100g. Could always try it on some feeder fish in a plastic tote as a trial run and see if it’s tolerated.

Thanks kno4te kno4te . I'm guessing 1g/100gal would be or the full-concentrate, so a 10% solution would be 10g/100gal? I think I'll move the knife for this treatment rather than test on guppies. Moreover, I'll set a 15gal with guppies, test, wait 48hrs then add the knife & re-dose.

Re-dose every 12hrs, yes? Previous threads suggest the material's only in the water for 8hrs. How long, or just continue until there's a wadge of dead worms on the bottom? ...or not, & he's got a different issue.

I have a 20gal raising scuds, so added 2x guppies & dose with "Fendazol" oral wormer from my vet.

Using dosing outlines from aquarium supplies of same Fendendazol(sp?) active ingredient at 10% (rather than 5%): water went cloudy, then cleared over 12hrs. Scuds fine, added guppies, also fine for another 48hrs+. Drained water, re-dosed & added knife this AM. All seems fine at 10hrs: fishes, snails & skuds all Ok, hydroids & flatworms disappeared & no dead round nor tape-worms on the bottom or changes to ABK's distended tummy.

Any idea how long it'll take for worms to die, and/or I know if worms are the issue?
Should I be soaking/dosing an earthworm & feeding rather than the full-body soak? In with >500 squirmy little amphipods, I'm not sure he'd take an earthworm anyways...

Agreed that I should have dosed the whole 120gal tank/system; let's see how this works, then we'll continue.

Fingers crossed...

Sorry. Didn’t see that tag but that’s a full dose. I’d monitor the response and redose in 24hrs for 5-7 days. Repeat in another 2 weeks.

Should be easily absorbed. Can mix with food and feed to your fish. Hope fully clears up in several or more weeks, 3-4 weeks.
