About Amazon Swords?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is very dependent. I actually never have had runners on any of my amazons, but they split very regularly.

I thought they cant be split?

Amazon swords primarily reproduce by splitting. There is a difference however, between it splitting, an you splitting it. New rosettes will form on the parent plant, and these can be split off to form new plants.

Ok but I'm sorry, even though rossette's were explained I still don't understand... Please tell me in extreme detail please. Thank you soooo much.

If you look at the bottom of the leaves, each end will curve inwards towards a center. The center of these leaves is the rosette. Eventually, you will see leaves curving in a different direction creating a new center. This is a daughter plant, and a new rosette that can be split off.

Thank you wylfya

Since this is on the same topic.

ALL of my amazons have runners. Some too tall so i trimed down to the next runner.

So i have small bunches of baby amazons. Any special way to plant them? Or let them float? Also, do they split off by them selfs if they are left on the runner thats connected to the mother plant?

Runners should only be cut once they have established their own root system. If you do not give them that long, and they don't have roots, it can take 6-12 months, where with roots it would only take 1-2 weeks, to grow at standard rates. Amazon swords are root feeders, and are very poor at nutrient uptake through their leaves. If you have roots already on the daughter plants they can be planted right away.

Good deal. I let mine have at least 3" of roots before I cut them off.
